Wednesday S2: Wednesday Adams returns in Season 2 and brings a new set of VFX challenges. Professor Orloff, a teacher at Nevermore Academy this season, presented a particular challenge, as he is a disembodied head floating in a liquid filled jar. Portrayed by the iconic Christopher Lloyd, bringing his performance to life required an entirely new approach. We utilized a custom volume capture rig, which allowed us to exactly preserve both his appearance and performance. This captured geometry was integrated with a full CG hair sim, a water sim and rendered in a murky refractive environment. The Flaming Raven was a more traditional VFX approach, leaning on complex fire sims and an animation rig that allowed for the branches composing the effigy to bend, slide and flex in natural ways, preserving the relationship between the bundles and preventing twig penetration. Sims were built to match the energy and texture of the practical fire, and particular care was taken to match the color and dynamic range of the fire in the plate.
