Live Event Installations & Projections
LIWA Short films
Artists In Motion
LIWA 2025 – Animated Short Film Series. Created for the Liwa International Festival 2025, this series of three original animated short films formed a central component of a large-scale projection installation experienced by over 950,000 visitors.
Designed specifically for a live outdoor festival environment, the project moved beyond abstract spectacle to deliver narrative-driven projection content that could engage a diverse audience. Each film combined cinematic storytelling with high-impact visuals, using animation to create memorable moments that resonated across both motorsport enthusiasts and casual attendees.
The series featured three distinct films—Release The Beast, Rev Heads, and Extreme Machine—each with its own visual language and tone while unified by the festival’s identity. From engineered vehicles conquering desert dunes, to a contemporary Arabic rap music-driven portrait of Liwa’s community, to a character-led transformation story, the films balanced humour, energy, and spectacle with clear narrative structure.
The works combined animation, visual effects, motion design, editorial, and original sound design within an integrated production pipeline. This approach allowed for cohesive creative direction while ensuring each film was optimised for large-format projection, where clarity, timing, and immediate visual impact are critical.
The installation was designed to operate at scale, using projection as a storytelling medium rather than a visual backdrop. Rhythm, composition, and pacing were carefully crafted to maintain audience attention in an open, high-traffic environment, while bespoke audio and music design enhanced immersion and emotional engagement.
By combining animation, narrative, and large-scale projection design, the LIWA 2025 series demonstrates how animated content can transform live event environments, creating shared audience experiences that are both technically ambitious and culturally resonant.
