NISMO Electric Racer
Electric Studios
Ahead of Formula E’s Tokyo E-Prix on 17th and 18th May 2025, Nissan released a ‘80s-inspired, 16-bit racing game. Playable online, ‘NISMO Electric Racer Tokyo’, pays homage to Japan’s gaming history, with gamers able to zoom down cherry-blossom clad streets, iconic cityscapes and even past Mount Fuji.
The team designed, illustrated and developed all assets within the game, including the car, scenery, buildings, and of course playable characters. Users are able to choose between Nissan Formula E teammates - Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato.
The team also designed the matching, special-edition,16-bit inspired racecar liveries that were donned at the race IRL in Tokyo, which carried Oliver Rowland over the finish line, securing a home win for Nissan. All in all, the campaign was a massive hit among both long-time fans and newcomers, and we saw some mind-blowing high scores appear on the leaderboard as the game became semi-viral.
