Taking Off Again with Kai Tak

Cathay Pacific has transformed the West Bridge of Kai Tak Sports Park, where the iconic Kai Tak Airport original runway was once located, into an audio-visual experience that celebrates the countless ‘take-offs’ the brand has shared with passengers throughout the ages. As the exclusive Founding Travel Partner at Kai Tak Sports Park, Cathay has created an aviation-themed audio-visual experience stretching close to 100 meters along West Bridge, transforming the walk between Sung Wong Toi station and the Kai Tak Stadium into a visual and sonic expression of the brand’s history.

The installation is one of Cathay’s largest outdoor audio-visual experiences to date. Cathay blended data with storytelling to create a film that’s purpose-built for this iconic urban space. It tells the evocative story of an airline interwoven with Hong Kong’s fabric, connecting past, present, and future – a 'worm’s-eye view' where passersby look up to see Cathay’s first aircraft, 'Betsy', take off into the skies. From here, the film meanders through the decades, culminating in 2025’s historic debut of the Hong Kong Sevens at Kai Tak Sports Park. With four action zones, the experience is timed to the average walking speed so that onlookers can experience it from start to finish before arriving at the Kai Tak Stadium.
