War Machine
Framestore
Directed by Patrick Hughes and starring Alan Ritchson, War Machine is a sci-fi action thriller set on a near-future battlefield where advanced military technology collides with raw human determination. Under the supervision of VFX Supervisor Joao Sita, Framestore crafted complex battlefield environments, large-scale destruction, and the film’s formidable titular adversary: the War Machine.
Conceived not simply as a machine but as a relentless hunter, the War Machine was designed to feel more animalistic than mechanical. Starting from early production models, our artists refined the character by stripping away overtly human-made details in favour of a sleeker, more instinctive design inspired by dinosaurs and other predatory bipedal creatures. Multiple texture and damage variations reflected the machine’s evolution throughout the film, while animation, look development and effects work combined to bring its weight, movement and destructive power to life. Beyond the creature work, our artists also created vast war-torn environments, explosive battle sequences and a climactic quarry showdown, helping deliver the film’s gritty and immersive vision of futuristic warfare.
