Set against a backdrop of fractured loyalty and buried secrets, ‘The Wrecking Crew’ follows estranged half-brothers Jonny and James as they unravel a conspiracy tied to their father’s mysterious death.
DNEG’s Sydney studio led a global team to deliver over 350 shots for the movie’s pivotal Honolulu highway chase sequence. The key technical asset for the DNEG team was a full-CG recreation of the Honolulu highway and tunnel. The environment was transformed with authentic road layouts, signage and native vegetation from plates shot in New Zealand, and was populated with hero CG assets including a Chrysler Pacifica, Yakuza motorbikes and a Eurocopter helicopter. The DNEG team also delivered detailed set extensions, complex FX sims and seamless digi-doubles across the sequence, and utilised advanced face replacements techniques for the stunt performers to ensure continuity. The highway chase sequence culminates with a spectacular helicopter crash and explosion, meticulously created in full-CG with realistic destruction FX.
