Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience

SeaWorld San Diego’s Ocean Explorer realm undertook a huge transformation in 2024, launching a 3-gallery experience that features live jelly habitats, educational exhibits and an immersive underwater wonderland for their new Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience.
Spinifex Group created a 16 min seamless loop, crafted of seven unique chapters of visual intrigue, blending live-cinematography, stylized animation, motion graphics in 2D and 3D and masterful compositing techniques for the custom built 11,712 x 5856 curved LED canvas.
This journey transports guests through a mesmerizing aquatic gallery, with each sequence portraying a unique artistic vision. Guests are transported to the ocean’s sunlight, twilight and midnight zones, as well as a “Science” chapter inspired by the art of zoologist Ernst Haeckel.
Themes include the ethereal bioluminescence of the twilight zone, the enigmatic creatures of ancient oceans, and the stunning diversity and celebration of jellies in all their shapes, colors and sizes.
For the final chapter, we were inspired by the kaleidoscope; the beauty of form and shape; and represent the narrative of jellyfish as symbols of the vast interconnectedness of our One Ocean, humanity’s bond with the sea and the beauty of life on Earth.
Each chapter flows seamlessly, guided by a cinematic orchestral score that deepens the sensory experience with flawless transitions between ambient and show modes to captivate and enchant visitors.
