Titles/Openers - TV
In 2002, the tourist district of Kuta on the Island of Bali, Indonesia suffered a terrorist attack inflicted by various members of the terrorist group, Jemaah Islamiyah.
In wake of the tragic event and it’s 20-year anniversary, STAN released the drama series BALI 2002, which explores one of the most impactful terrorist events in world history.
Known locally as the jepun, the frangipani is Bali’s signature flower and is used in various religious ceremonies and offerings. Also believed to be a symbol of hope, our client thought it important to include Bali's national flower in the opening titles to channel this concept amidst the theme of tragedy.
Whilst the inclusion of the frangipani in the opening titles pays homage to Bali through national symbolism, the loitering motion of the camera exploring the texture and transformation of the petals as they wither from the flames, echoes the delicacy and fragility of life itself.
