Ample Projects won the creative tender put out by Vivid Sydney in 2017 to create an architectural projection adaptation of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, celebrating the 100th anniversary of May Gibbs' iconic Snugglepot and Cuddlepie stories, on Customs House for Vivid Sydney 2018.
Ample's mission from the outset was to combine the craft of storytelling for architectural projection design, with a show that captures May Gibbs' body of work - her deep love and understanding of the Australian bush. Gibbs' portrayal of this love was always evident in her books, engendering in children her own love of nature. She based her characters and scenery on the plants found in the Australian bush during time spent as a child in Western Australia and on visits to the Blue Mountains in her adult years, so Ample developed a story which captured these whymsical and beautiful characters and worlds.
